May 4th I took my daughter out for a sail, had to give her some tiller time. We motored out to LA Light sailed out a ways then paralleled the breakwater to Long Beach the wind was light and shifty so we ended up motor sailing to the Long Beach harbor and went in at Queens Gate. We went along side the Queen Mary and then into Shoreline Marina for some fuel.

We went out on May 10th for a sail but with winds blowing 25-30 knots and gusts in the 40's it was too much to keep going even with a reefed main so we turned around and came back to our safe slip.
Finally had the boat out on April 26 for an actual sail, we went out LA Light and headed about a mile out made a few tacks then sailed back in. The boat performed well considering the bottom hasn't been cleaned in a year, the previous motoring probably knocked off allot of growth The wind was around 10 to 12 knots and we were broad reaching around 6 knots.

A couple of months ago I got a Yamaha 8 hp long shaft 2 stroke for a great price BUT it ended up needing some... well a few things to get it running tip top, I took it apart and cleaned out the salt and gunk put in a new impeller fuel filter, face plate and gear oil. it ran good for about 10 minutes then died so I rebuilt the carb. and it ran great at home.
I finished refurbishing the boats outboard motor yesterday and we put the motor in the boat today and took it out for about a 45 minute cruise and it worked fine so tomorrow we will motor out past Ports o Call and Cabrillo marina, maybe set anchor at Cabrillo for a lunch break then head back to the slip. Round trip should be close to 14 miles, thats a good sea trial for the motor. Net week we sail...
I havn't posted anything in a while but we have been working on the boat a little each weekend. About 95% of the interior trim is finished and I added a cabin top winch plus rope clutches and deck organizer for leading the halyards aft. I have a few more things to do before that is complete.

Well this weekend I worked on the galley a little and the drawers and frame under the forward dinette, I didn't finish the galley but I did get a coat of oil in the dinette drawers, Sorry about not taking pics but I will get some soon, this process is dirty and you won't see much until its finished.

Today I finally put on the first coat of Formby Tung oil (after many many hours of sanding) on most of the trim I still have to do the galley and a few small pieces and the head drawers and cabinet. My wife has been busy with a quilt and pillows for the boat.

Today is the first day of September and I was down at the boat to finish removing the wood trim, I didn't remove it all as it was over 95 deg. and about 95% humidity and being below was like being an a wet oven. I removed most of the hard to get stuff. I am going to strip the grime and crud off then sand, I might have to bleach and stain to get a uniform color before varnishing. I am going with a satin finish for the interior.
